A new canopy formation
In the thrilling world of skydiving, achieving new formations is a testament to innovation, dedication, and the remarkable spirit of teamwork. Enter the Red Devils Army Parachute Display Team, who recently accomplished an extraordinary feat: the creation of a breathtaking formation named the Pentagram. This accomplishment required meticulous planning, unshakeable determination, and an unwavering commitment to achieve excellence. In this blog post, we will delve into the journey behind the Pentagram and highlight the remarkable teamwork and resilience displayed by the Red Devils team throughout
The path to success
The journey towards the Pentagram began with intensive planning. LCpl Clark spearheaded this crucial stage as the team Stack Pilot. The team knew that to achieve the desired formation, a meticulous approach was required. They left no stone unturned, investing countless hours in studying new and innovative ways to connect this formation with probes, straps, aerial dynamics and characteristics of the parachuting canopies, and also individual skill sets of every Red Devil involved. This stage laid the foundation for what was to come, setting the team on the path to success.
The planning stage
Once the planning stage was complete, the team turned their focus to rigging. LCpl Cameron Clark, Cpl Stephen Handley & Pte Max Tork played pivotal roles in ensuring the straps we had previously planned on the drawing board were now created and built with precision and all canopies were properly rigged. This stage demanded precision and attention to detail, as any miscalculation could compromise the safety of the team. Collectively, they flawlessly assembled and prepared the probes, straps and rigged all canopies, exhibiting their unwavering commitment to excellence.
Ground trials
The next stage in the Pentagram’s journey involved rigorous ground trials. This phase allowed the team to refine their synchronisation, coordination, and timing on solid ground. Every movement was meticulously evaluated and adjusted, working towards seamless execution in the sky. The team embraced challenges and setbacks, they learnt along the way and strove forward with courage and discipline.
The first in air trials
With the ground trials yielding positive results, it was time for the team to take their formation to new heights, literally. The air trials involved a series of four jumps, during which the Red Devils demonstrated unmatched skill and resilience. These trials not only tested their abilities but also their trust in one another and selfless commitment. Each jump brought them closer to achieving their dream formation, fuelling their resolve to overcome any obstacles they encountered.
A world first
After months of unwavering dedication and countless challenges, the Red Devils Army Parachute Display Team stepped onto the stage they had aspired to reach.
